#walk1000miles – March 2019

We’re halfway in to April and I’ve yet to set myself the time to sit down and write about my mileage from March! Before May arrives, I’m committed to doing that, now that I’ve moved home, had my broadband reconnected and feel better connected with the world wide web.

02/03 – 14 miles – Blagdon, North Somerset
09/03 – 15 miles – Priddy to Axbridge, Mendip Hills
10/03 – 11 miles – The Devil’s Chimney (with Brunel Walking Group)
16/03 – 8.5 miles – Wrington, North Somerset
24/03 – 13.25 miles – Chew, Two, Three (walk leading)
30/03 – 16.25 miles – Black Mountains, South Wales

Total for March 2019 = 78 miles

I’m not going to complain about that total for any month in the season of spring! Looking back to March 2018, I see that I couldn’t even make it to a half-Century (with or without the snow, that year).

In the midst of all of this, I’ve moved home from a flat in the middle of a quiet village, close to the countryside. Now, I reside in a smaller flat on the fringe of a much larger town… Still somewhat close to green spaces but lacking in immediate hills and woodland.

I like to think that a routine of evening walks could develop, here. Between moving in, moving out and hurting my back in the process, I’ve not yet been out to explore on foot, so close to my new home.

In fact, the very first walk I did after accepting the keys involved travelling all the way to South Wales for a day in the beloved Black Mountains.

So far this year, I’ve already led two of my group walks (in addition to those I ‘lead’ privately with friends). My third will align with the calendar soon and then to be followed by a fourth, almost immediately after.

Summer is coming and so, too, will those cows… Locked away for the winter, I’ll bet they’re itching to be free once again.

Current total for 2019 = 212.25 miles

Thanks for reading.

I live in North Somerset, close to the Mendip Hills and I enjoy spending time outdoors. In particular, going on long walks and camping across the summer months. I also get around to explore other parts of the UK. In 2018, I hope to find a new workshop because I miss woodworking and no day-job will ever provide the same sense of satisfaction as making your own. I have two blogs: Olly Writes (woodworking, DIY, baking) Olly Outdoors (walking, hiking, camping) You can also find me on YouTube and Facebook (where I have respective channels and pages for each blog). I'm also on Twitter and Instagram (@OllyPJ).
