Llanthony Loop (Black Mountains)

Sunday 25th August 2019

Six-days after the partial disappointment that came with my walk of Ysgyryd Fawr and Bryn Arw, I made my way back to the Black Mountains for a second crack at finalising a medium-level route for my walking group.

Same setting; different hills.

Ysgyryd Fawr and Bryn Arw

Monday 19th August 2019

Since changing my job in June/July, I’ve developed a working rota that grants me every other Monday as a rest day, with no further questions asked. One one of these ‘happy Mondays’, I decided to make my way across the Severn Estuary and in to South Wales.

My goal was to climb ‘The Skirrid’ for the very first time and  also try out a ten-to-eleven mile circular route that I’d sketched out in advance.

#walk1000miles – August 2019

With the arrival of September, our thoughts often turn to that of autumn, a chill in the air and the final passing of a summer that probably wasn’t as wet or miserable as we might choose to remember.

Two-thirds of the year complete. Let’s take a look at August.

Black Mountains (March 2019)

Saturday 30th March 2019

This would be my first Black Mountains walk of the year, having previous done a shorter route in a similar area with my friend Dave, back in December.

Everything was planned for a great sixteen-miles in these brilliant mountains. My bag was packed. Lunch prepared. As I bent down to put my shoes on and, before I could even tie my laces, something ‘went’ in my lower back.

Bal Bach and Bal Mawr

Friday 28th December 2018

One of my final walks of 2018 concerned an overdue return to the Black Mountains of South Wales. With the tolls for both of the Severn Bridge crossings having been scrapped earlier in December, there was less of an excuse not to travel towards the Brecon Beacons.

I drove to Bristol and met up with my friend Dave, who I’m be car-sharing and walking with.

#walk1000miles – December 2018

I’ve been saying this all year but, I had no intention of walking the full one-thousand miles this year. My aim was purely to walk as often as would seem reasonable and to see, out of curiosity, how many miles I could cover within an average year.

Well, that hunger probably took over – aided by several months of unemployment, lots of free time and the ambition to complete my first National Trail. I have many good memories from 2018 and I look forward to walking my way through 2019…

Again, I won’t be setting out to reach any target but I’ll probably complete this challenge for a third successive year!

#walk1000miles – August 2018

I doubt many of us can believe that August has come and gone. Two-thirds of the way through 2018 and we’ll soon be waving goodbye to the summer, before we’re ready for it.

I’ve managed to keep myself busy, clocking up the miles over the past month. Continue reading “#walk1000miles – August 2018”
