Camping at Brook Farm

June 2018. I had a week booked off work and a personal allowance to walk The Ridgeway National Trail in only five of those days.

…Long story short: I came home, injured, on the morning of day two. With a lot of emotion and feeling going on, I didn’t want to waste my remaining week of freedom and ‘failure’ before returning to work.

I decided to go camping for a few days and, for a change, I’d head south in to Somerset and Brook Farm Campsite near Long Sutton.

New Camera: DJI Osmo Action

Over the last two years, I’d been contemplating the purchase of an action camera. Something compact, light in weight, mostly waterproof durable and capable of accepting an external microphone, which is one of the few drawbacks with my otherwise-faithful Olympus TG-4.

I was never going to splash out on the very latest GoPro, although I had been eyeing up refurbished Hero 5 models at around £200 on eBay… In the end, I went for the DJI Osmo Action. DJI are a well-regarded manufacturer of drones and, as per usual, I liked the opportunity to own something that fewer others would have.

Plans for 2020

Welcome to a brand-new year! I knew what most of my plans and intentions for 2020 would be while we were barely in to the second half of 2019.

South Downs Way: Day Four

Tuesday 28th May 2019

With three days behind me, I crossing the halfway point in my expedition along the South Downs Way. This one would develop in to a stand-out occasion in my series.

South Downs Way: Day Three

Monday 27th May 2019

With a full weekend of walking behind me, I awoke with a feeling of fortune; knowing that I could otherwise have been working on this Monday morning, like millions of others around the UK.

Feeling refreshed the morning after my first shower on the trail and with my rucksack feeling significantly lighter without two evening meals, I felt as though this was going to be a good day following the South Downs Way. Continue reading “South Downs Way: Day Three”

South Downs Way: Day Two

Sunday 26th May 2019

Having braved and survived the woodland scene of my first ever wild camp, I was up and packing early the next morning; ready for breakfast and the beginning of a new day on this promising National Trail.

This walk had originally been forecast to last a good nineteen miles. But, having walked on a bit further than intended the night before, I was looking forward to a reduced duration.
