Over the last two years, I’d been contemplating the purchase of an action camera. Something compact, light in weight, mostly waterproof durable and capable of accepting an external microphone, which is one of the few drawbacks with my otherwise-faithful Olympus TG-4.
I was never going to splash out on the very latest GoPro, although I had been eyeing up refurbished Hero 5 models at around £200 on eBay… In the end, I went for the DJI Osmo Action. DJI are a well-regarded manufacturer of drones and, as per usual, I liked the opportunity to own something that fewer others would have.

Seven-days before ahead of the start of my South Downs Way journey, I loaded up my new fifty litre rucksack and heading up in to the Mendip Hills for a day walk. This would be my first outing with the Montane Yupik 50. An opportunity to see it it really fits and how comfortable I would be, carrying my current load. As I’ll be walking the South Downs Way in one month’s time and, having learned a few lessons along The Ridgeway last year, I’ve acted upon the decision to downsize from a 65 litre rucksack.

I ended up returning both pairs and I’ll explain why further down. In this post, I’d like to share some of the features of these waterproof trousers as there is limited information available online and product reviews were scarce, as far as I could see.

Some may say I have too many backpacks (and, this may be true…) but I was keen on this purchase due to its low weight and I saw it as an ideal accessory for summer hiking when I may not need all of those extra thermal layers.
One month on, I’d like to share my impressions so far.

Unable to fulfil my ambition of backpacking along The Ridgeway in five-days and, with a week off work to savour, I spent a couple of nights at Brook Farm campsite in Long Sutton, South Somerset.
This was my first opportunity to use my latest tent purchase, the Vango Ark 200+.
