First Walk with the Montane Yupik 50

Seven-days before ahead of the start of my South Downs Way journey, I loaded up my new fifty litre rucksack and heading up in to the Mendip Hills for a day walk. This would be my first outing with the Montane Yupik 50. An opportunity to see it it really fits and how comfortable I would be, carrying my current load. Montane Yupik 50: First Look

As I’ll be walking the South Downs Way in one month’s time and, having learned a few lessons along The Ridgeway last year, I’ve acted upon the decision to downsize from a 65 litre rucksack.

I’ve purchased the Montane Yupik 50 – a 50 litre pack that I’d been coveting for a while. In this post, I’ll share my initial thoughts with an overview. Prior to the purchase, I could find very little information available online.

Lowe Alpine Aeon 27

Some may say I have too many backpacks (and, this may be true…) but I was keen on this purchase due to its low weight and I saw it as an ideal accessory for summer hiking when I may not need all of those extra thermal layers.

One month on, I’d like to share my impressions so far.

Vango Ark 200+ Tent

Unable to fulfil my ambition of backpacking along The Ridgeway in five-days and, with a week off work to savour, I spent a couple of nights at Brook Farm campsite in Long Sutton, South Somerset.

This was my first opportunity to use my latest tent purchase, the Vango Ark 200+.

OEX Compact Self-Inflating Sleeping Mat

Eighteen-months after purchase, I review the OEX Compact 4.0 self-inflating sleeping mat. This post also includes a link to the video I created.

With a view towards walking The Ridgeway in May [yes, I’m actually going to do it, this year], I recently started looking back over the kit I intend to carry with me. Much of which was purchased between 2016 and 2017.

I’d like to share some thoughts on the self-inflating sleeping mat I currently own, before I speculate upon potential weight and space-saving improvements. Continue reading “OEX Compact Self-Inflating Sleeping Mat”
