My Boots and Insoles

As a frequent hiker who’s attempting to walk one-thousands miles this year, the fit and support offered by my footwear is of great importance.

I find myself ready to dip in to the market for a new pair of boots, with long summer walks and The Ridgeway in mind… In this post, I’d like to go over what I currently wear and the various insole and footbed configurations I’ve tried.

Burrowbridge and Beyond

Saturday 18th March 2017

This would be my second walk in the Burrowbridge area and an attempt to finalise a pre-walk, for a group event that I’m actually leading tomorrow.

My first walk here followed too many roads and hard paths for my liking. With some familiarity already behind me, I wanted to explore further.

Ridgeway Thoughts

As things currently stand, I’m on course to be ready (in the material sense) by the end of May, for my first long-distance multi-day walk along the Ridgeway.

Behind the pages of this blog, I’ve been purchasing other items – including a new sleeping bag and rucksack. Now, I’m only really need a set of dry sacks and probably a pair of new boots… That and finalised plans for my route, overnight stops and transport to and from the trail!

My intention to do this hike came up during Saturday’s group walk and I’ve been having frequent thoughts about it since…

Chew Magna Walk

Sunday 5th March 2017

I have very recently turned thirty-two and, to celebrate the occasion (albeit, eight-days later), I decided that I would lead a walk for a group people…

In spite of my struggles with social anxiety, a lack of social skills and other issues, I felt like doing ‘something different’ and wanted to share a walk in one of my favourite areas. I stopped doing things to keep up with other people (like drinking) nearly ten-years ago and I dislike loud parties and crowds.

That walk took place yesterday and I was amazed to have ten people walking with me. Weather was also very much on our side! Back in early March, I set out one Sunday morning on a bit of a ‘reccy’ for a few hours, to investigate a series of different footpaths.

River Parrett Walk

Saturday 4th March 2017

I’d been wanting to revisit the northern end of the River Parrett, ever since walking it with Anna in 2016, as part of our effort to complete the unofficial Somerset Coast Path.

Back then, we took a mutual shortcut in the aim of saving time and making the stretch less mundane, as even the new England Coast Path requires you to walk along both sides of this wide river before reaching Steart and heading west past the Quantocks.

In this walk, I would fill in the missing miles. On my own, for now.

#walk1000miles – March 2017

Here we are on the 1st of April (no jokes, here). It’s time to review the first month of spring. Going in to this, I have to say that I’m a bit disappointed with my tally for March…

Choosing a Backpacking Rucksack

By the end of next week (which also coincides with the end of Month Three), I aim to have acquired or at least ordered a rucksack for my up-and-coming backpacking adventures.

Here, I’m going to share the two three packs that I’ve narrowed my selection down to.
